How to Write a Resume

If you have never written a resume before, you have come to the right place. We are giving step-by-step direction on how to write the perfect resume.

Step One: You want to start your resume with your full name, current address and a phone number (preferably a landline). Many people use cell phones these days on resumes but when a potential employer goes to call you, the call can break up or you may lose the call while actually talking on the phone.

Step Two: Some resumes contain an Objective Line. You will want to put down your objectives or goals when you find a job. Never put down that you want to get a job to make money. Potential employers want to hire someone who cares about the job and not just the paycheck.

Step Three: You want to start the resume off with your recent work history. In bold letters type Work History and start to list your jobs from newest to oldest. Try to list jobs that you had more than 7 years ago. Employers don’t want to read books when they hire someone.

Step Four: List the job duties you performed while on the jobs. Try to use the office terms such as Accounts Payables and Accounts Receivables. Be honest about all of your experiences. A potential employer may hire you based on a job function you said you can perform and then it turns out you cannot do it, you may get fired before you really get started. Make sure that you are adding years that you were at the job. If you were at a job for 6 months, simple put for example, 2002-2002

Step Five: Type the word Education in bold letters. List educational experiences in chronological order from most recent to high school. You don’t have to date yourself back to middle school. Put the years that you attended these schools at the end. Just the years are fine; you don’t need the exact dates.

Step Six: List any special computer skills that you may. If you have a Military Background, put it on your resume. You want to make a first impression before you make your physical first impression.

A well-put together resume can get you any job that you are qualified for. The better the resume the more job opportunities you will have. Always type your resume and never submit a handwritten resume. Professional is always better.
