How To Potty Train
Potty Training is perhaps the most important thing but it is the most frustrating thing too. Anyone who has been through this process knows what we mean. Every child is different and they all get potty trained at different ages. Here is a proven method of potty training; after all it can’t hurt to try.
Potty training is very time consuming, so you need to set aside some time everyday to teach your child to learn and trust the potty. Keep in mind that you will be cleaning up accidents for a bit of time, so be prepared.
Don’t force your child to use the potty, take more of a relaxed attitude. If your child sees you get upset because they aren’t doing what you want, they will shy away from using the potty altogether. Try to coax your child onto the potty rather than forcing them to sit there. It may loosen them up.
You want to make going to the potty easy for a child. You can try potty training girls with skirts, dresses or shorts on. Boys can wear pants that they can just pull down, you don’t want to use zipper pants right away because the anxiety of the child trying to get the zipper down before they pee may cause some unnecessary accidents.
See if your child prefers to use the potty alone. You could offer to stand outside the door. They may seem more comfortable alone rather than with an audience.
It is ok to reward your child for using the potty, there is a lot of anxiety for using the potty and rewarding them with going out to dinner or buying them a toy is acceptable. It is exciting to watch your child use the potty for the first time. They have every right to be proud of themselves.
Don’t be upset if the regress a bit; sometimes they experience a set back or two. Don’t get upset but try to figure out what may have caused the set back and work with your child to go forward.
Try to have your child wear underpants during the day while potty training. But use the disposable training pants at night; don’t refer to the training pants as diapers because they may think it’s ok to wear diapers at night. Potty training can be a long process, never force your child to sit on the potty for hours until they go. They will go in their own time and at their own pace.
