How to Make Wine

With today’s economy fluctuating, wouldn’t it be nice to save some money by making your own wine. It really isn’t as hard as it may sound.  The ingredients are easy to find, you need grapes, sugar, yeast, a glass gallon jar and a colored glass wine bottle. You will need a piece of cheesecloth; you can find this in most local supermarkets. You can choose green grapes or purple grapes both will work well. Don’t get seeded grapes or you will have to remove the seeds before mashing.
Step One: By using your hand or a chicken tenderizer mash the grapes up. You don’t have to peel the grapes first. Try using a bowl that has a wide opening; it will make mashing the grapes much easier. If you are afraid of the mess, you can use latex gloves. The stains from the grape juice can last about 2 days.

Step Two: Once the grapes are thoroughly mashed, take the grapes and put them into the gallon glass jar. Make sure that you get every last grape into the jar.

Step Three: Next, add the sugar into the jar and wait for it to dissolves. You can stir lightly. You don’t want to over stir the wine.

Step Four: Mix yeast in warm water and then add to the grapes. Stir the wine until the yeast dissolves completely.

Step Five: Add water to the jar until the jar is about ¾ full. Place a piece of cheese cloth over the jar to make sure that air can get into the jar and the fumes from the grapes can be released from the jar.

Step Six: Put the jar in a warm place for about 21 days. Then take off the cheesecloth and strain the wine. There may be some extra pieces of grapes left over. Strain the top of the wine and pour into a dark colored bottle, this keep direct sunlight off of the wine.

Chill and taste. Make sure that the wine is kept in a dark place, do not expose to sunlight. The process does take some time but at the end of the 21 days, the taste will be well worth it.
