How to Make Sushi

Lots of people are fond of Japanese food, like sushi. It’s “Maki-zushi” that most Japanese restaurants serve today, with vinegar rice rolled in seaweed wrappers. Here’s how to make this dish the authentic way.

Ingredients

It’s got to be authentic Japanese rice and vinegar used for this recipe. Otherwise, everything might be messed up. Japanese rice and vinegar produce the right kind of roll stickiness to wrap the filling with. This is the best way of how to make sushi. Then look for grocery fish marked with “Sashimi-Grade.” This is the healthy type, frozen under -4 Fahrenheit. Egg, shellfish, or tofu are good substitutes for fish when preparing this Japanese food.

Other ingredients like carrots, avocado, and cucumber further improve the taste and texture of this dish. Japanese food is often of fish and veggies. So, on how to make sushi authentically, add veggies as well. Seaweed, or “nori” in Japanese, is needed as wrapper. It’s available in most supermarkets or Asian food stores. Also prepare ginger root, soy sauce, and wasabi or wasabi powder. To simplify making rolls, use a sushi mat that goes with a kit, including chopsticks and other simple Japanese utensils.

How To Prepare the Rice

Cook the rice in a rice cooker and then wrap in a thin clean cloth. Mix rice vinegar, salt, and sugar and heat in a pan. When the concoction cools down, pour gently and in small amounts over the evenly spread cooked rice. Give the rice a gentle turn-over. It should have a shiny look then. It’s ready for this Japanese food.

The Rolling Part

Now comes the part on how to make sushi rolls. With its shiny face down, place the nori seaweed on the mat. Spread the rice on the seaweed (use a spatula). Make sure there is a vacant strip of about an inch at one side of the nori wrapper. Arrange the fish and veggies over the rice, in a strip, at the opposite side of the vacant strip.

Wet the vacant part of the roll with clean water, using the forefinger and middle finger. Roll-close it, having the wet portion act as a sealing agent. The bamboo mat may come in handy in rolling.

Serving

Cut the roll with a clean kitchen scissor or sharp knife into small rolls. Place them in a plate with edible herb decors, designed carrots, cucumbers, or pickles, and serve. This Japanese food goes well with a serving of soy sauce or wasabi on the side, and if everyone uses chopsticks. This is how to make sushi, and how to eat it properly.
