How To Make Soap

Making soap can be a fun project that you can do with the kids or even start up as a small business.  You can really use some creativity when making soap; you can make different shapes, colors and different scents.

Here is a basic soap recipe that you can use to get started:

Step One: You will need about 3 cups of soap flakes, 1-1/2 cup of water, food coloring, essential oils and vegetable oil.

Step Two: Take the 3 cups of soap flakes and pour them into a bowl. Add 1-1/2 cup of water to the flakes. Using your hands, mix the flakes and water together to get a doughy consistency.

Step Three: Add small drops of vegetable oil, one or two should do it.

Step Four: Add your food coloring and ant essential oils that you want to add to the mixture.

Step Five: Now you can shape and mold the soap style that you want.

Step Six: Let the soap sit overnight to set.

If you want a variation of a soap recipe, try Oatmeal Soap. Follow the same steps but add ground up dry oatmeal to the mixture rather than scents and colors.

The best way to mold and shape homemade soap is to use candy molds or chocolate molds. Cookie cutters work well too. If you want to do a soap on a rope version, then pat into a half of block of soap and place a strong rope vertical on top of the half of soap. Then form a second block on top of the first. Then let set over night and you have soap on a rope.

Making homemade soap can save you a lot of money on soap. You can add different colors and essential oil to give your soap different scents and shapes. They are perfect for a guest bathroom or a basket of decorative soaps. You can decorate your soaps for different holidays.

You can sell them at Craft Fairs or as a small business. Soap making is fun and a great project for the kids. They can really be creative because the soaps can be shaped into any shape and any size.
