How To Make A Kite

A fun arts and crafts project that you can do with your kids is making a kite. This is also a great science project. Here is a step-by-step instruction manual on how to make a kite.
Step One: Use any size paper, the bigger the better. Then cut out a diamond shape from it. You can also position one or more pieces of paper to create a diamond shape. Or you can simple cut the corners off the pieces of paper. You will want to use the heaviest paper you can find. Construction paper will work well. Anything lighter and the kite will have no control.

Step Two: Now you will need pipe cleaners are small sticks like ice cream sticks and lay them on the paper in a horizontal fashion. Next, you will do the same vertically, so that the kite has a cross style support. Glue them together with superglue.

Step Three: Make 2 holes in the diamond shaped paper. Locate the inside corner where your sticks cross and using a thick string thread the connection. Twine would work well here. This is the same string that is going to control your kite. The lighter the string the less direction your kite will have. Plus, as you fly your kite you will need something to hold the string to make it long enough to fly. Using a ball of twine is perfect.

Step Four: Take the other end of the thick string and do the same as you did in Step three.

Step Five: Next, you want to tie a durable and long string to the sticks. This is going to be the tail of the kite. You can make incisions into piece of construction paper and feed the string through before you fasten the string. This will help get the kit under better control.

Step Six: You can decorate the kite with pictures, crayon drawings or you can paint the kite a different color.

Step Seven: All you need know is a light breeze and you can fly your kite. You should fly your kite where there is enough running room to get your kite in the air. A park or an open field would make an excellent choice.

If at first you don’t get the kite up there, don’t worry. Kite flying takes patience, with that and a strong wind you can fly your kite in no time.
