How to Do a Front Flip

Doing any type of gymnastics can be dangerous if you don’t know how to execute the move properly. You can get seriously hurt, take it slow and practice with as many safety measures as possible. Always have someone spot you, if could prevent serious injury. If you want to learn to do a front flip in the privacy of your own home, we can offer you some step-by-step instruction on just how to do it.

Step One: Make sure that you are practicing on a lot of mats or cushioned floor. Have someone spot you. Never try a front flip on a concrete surface.

Step Two: Bend your knees and put your hands above your head. Then breathe in deeply. This will help pull up your rib cage making the flip a bit easier to do.

Step Three: Now jump straight up in the air; you can use your arms to help guide you. Pull your arm behind you to give you momentum. Try not to jump forward, by doing this you will lose height and it could cause injury.

Step Four: Then throw your arms in the front of you and as you at the height of the jump, pull your arms forward and put them down as you are into the flip.

Step Five: As you are into the jump, pull up your knees into the chest and curl yourself into a ball. The ball will give you more rotation.

Step Six: As you are coming out of the rotation, pull your legs down into a standing position. Try to bend your knees as you land to take in as much shock from landing directly on your feet. Keep your arms out to keep your balance.

Some good tips to help you are try practicing this on a Trampoline. This will actually help you to perform the front flip better. Practices doing a running front flip before doing a regular standing flip. Once you master the running flip a standing flip will follow. Watch some videos and see how they do it. You may be able to get some pointers watching the videos.

Always be confident and think about the flip before you do it. You may end up pulling a muscle the first few times you try this, some people pull out their backs. If you feel hurt in the slightest, stop the flip and see a doctor.
