How To Clean Leather
We get so upset when we get leather dirty but rest assured that it could be cleaned. You will need some essentials to help you clean leather. Next time you have a leather item that gets dirty follow these steps to get the leather clean. These cleaning steps can be used on any leather items such as coats, furniture, luggage, baseball gloves, leather boots and even horse saddles.
These following steps are Finished Leather
First, take a small amount of a mild soap like a dishwashing soap and put directly on a damp cloth or washcloth. Rub against the stain, don’t let the soap lather too much. Try not to get too much water onto the leather. You can use another damp washcloth to add water to the soap.
Next, wash away the soap mixture by using a soft clean cloth. You can use a damp cloth but use a new one, never rinse a soap filled damp cloth to wash away the soap, it will just cause more bubbles.
Then polish the leather up with a dry towel and if you have available, treat the leather with a special conditioner made for leather but only use after the leather has dried. You have to be careful when cleaning leather because if you use too much water you could ruin the spot where it was stained.
If you want to treat unfinished leather then you will need a damp cloth and saddle soap. First use a damp cloth and with a little bit of saddle soap rub the stained area. This should help you remove the stain right away. You can purchase saddle soap at your local leather store or shoe store.
Then you can wipe up the lather and let the spot air dry, do not wipe or use any other soap except saddle soap. After using the saddle soap if you want to use an oil leather preservative to restore the leathers sheen.
