How to Build a Water Wheel Pump
Water wheel pumps have other uses apart from forcing water to a specific destination. They can also be used to grind grain and cut wood. To create this functional device, you need to carry out the following procedures.
Required Materials
- small bucket
- wooden plank
- wooden skewer
- flat pins
- scissors
- ruler
- string
- compass
Steps to Build a Water Wheel Pump
- Draw a line around 2” from the border of the plank and divide the line into 10 segments. The segments should have the same measurements. These segments will be the paddles of the water wheel pump.
- Draw two circles on the wooden plank and mark the centers of the two circles. These marks will determine the points where the axle will connect the device.
- Build the stand for the water wheel pump. The height of the stand depends on you. It is generally a good idea to make it high.
- Devise two large triangles and a supporting beam to stabilize the triangles.
- Cut the circles and the line segments.
- Place the paddles at a 40-degree angle from the wheel’s two halves.
- Glue the paddles in place and let them dry.
- Drive a skewer through the centers of the wheel.
- Assemble the water wheel and stand. Carefully fit the water wheel on the stand.
- Place the bucket on the axle of the water wheel and test the pump. Larger measurements for the paddles and wheels are needed if the water wheel pump is to be used for a garden.
