How to Build a Trebuchet
First, set up the base using a long piece of wood. Cut the wood into 8 long pieces. Among the 8, cut one longest piece, two pieces that are shorter by few inches, two pieces that are few inches shorter than the measurement of the preceding length, and three having the matchingequal measurements.
Diagonally cut a square wooden piece diagonally to havemake two triangles. Attach two pairs of wood where one is connected at three-quarters of the length of the second longer piece.
Then glue one of the triangles to one of the attached pair of woods. Have the slanting side of the triangle point towards the longer side of the attachment. Then glue the remaining triangle to the second side.
Attached two of the shortest pieces of wood to the sides built previously such that you’ll have a rectangular setup with triangles pointing outwards and two upright arms. Attach the remaining smallest piece at the intersection of the upright arms and the base. Nail the wooden pieces together to secure the set-up. Mark the position of the holes in the upright arms intended for the axle. The hole should be at least one inch from the uppermost portion.
Tohen make the swinging arm, b. Bore holes in the upright arms. Then mark three holes on the longest wood. The first hole should be ¼ of the total length from the edge. The remaining two holes should be one inch and two inches away from the first one. Bore through the marked holes. Insert a cylindrical rod metal into one of the holes (serves will serve as an axle) and swing wood around it.
Fasten a hoop hook at the border near the bored holes, where the counterweight will be laden. Nail the opposite side to secure it and cut its head. Bend it a little so a loop can be placed there until taken. On the part of the swinging arm, fasten an additional hoop hook away from the nail to one face of the wooden piece. The pProjectile to be launched will be secured here.
Assemble the swinging arm of the base by inserting the axle through an erect arm of the foundation, one hole in the swinging arm, thoughand the other upright arm, with the hoop hook on one side of the edge should face downwards. Test if it swings smoothly.
Using thick yarn, suspend the wrapped counterweight from the hoop hook at one side of the swinging arm. Then assemble the swing.
