How to Build a Toy Box
Building a toy box is a constructive and fun way to spend the afternoon with your kids. Here are the things you will need for this project:
- Plywood
- Wood planks
- Bun feet
- Felt pads
- Piano hinge
- Wood screws
- Pocket screws
- Drill
- Circular saw
- Sandpaper
After preparing the materials, create a blueprint for your toy box. You can take the design from existing toy boxes or you can make your own style. Hobby stores and certain Internet sites have toy box plans you can purchase or acquire for free.
Next, cut the parts of the toy box. Use the measurements you have in your plan. To distinguish one part from another, you can label each part with numbers or letters. Make sure you cut the pieces accurately and that each part is straight.
Sanding the parts is the next step. Using sandpaper, make the wooden parts smooth. Remove all splinters. This will protect your kids from pointed parts on the toy box.
Assemble the toy box. Start by making the top. Place together the parts for the top and assemble those using wood screws. The top should be flush on all its edges and square.
After making the top, you can start working on the box. Put the front, back and sides in place. Use a set of pocket screws to secure them together. When you have checked that the structure is square, attach the bottom part.
Attach the feet to the box. Place the feet two inches from each edge of the box. Screw the feet from the box’s inside.
Using the piano hinge, attach the box to the lid. Make sure the lid closes properly. Sand the toy box again and paint it with the desired color. Finally, attach the felt pads to the feet.
