How to Build a Static 3 Phase Converter

A static 3 phase converter is a device that allows you to conserve electricity. Static 3 phase converters create a specific phase of electricity through the charging and discharging of capacitors. This lets a significant amount of power start a specific electric motor.

To build a static 3 phase converter, you need the following materials and tools:

  • Wires
  • Run capacitors
  • Start capacitors
  • Idler motor
  • Plugs
  • Plastic tape
  • Measuring tape
  • Switches
  • Voltmeter
  • Nails
  • Rubber gloves

After preparing the materials and tools, you need to acquire a reliable wiring code. You can find this in electric shops. The local administration in your area can also have a specific wiring code. Examine the wiring code and develop a plan from it.

You can then start assembling the static 3 phase converter. Make sure you ground the metal frame. This will make the structure safe and prevent you from being electrocuted during the project.

You should work on the idler motor next. If it is possible, you should get a ball-bearing motor. Check the name plate of your idler motor before attaching it to the wires. You should do this as not all idler motors are compatible with all types of wires.

Once you have set the idler motor, you need to attach to it the start and run capacitors. Again the capacitors need to be compatible with the motor.

Then you need to install the fuses of the converter. Before doing so, you should create a diagram for the said component. Keep the local coding at hand in this step. You also have to wire the overloads and run capacitors. If you are using longer wires, their voltage drop should not exceed 3 percent. Finally, add the disconnect switch and then test the static 3 phase converter.
