Steps to Build a Model Sailboat

Plan for your sailboat. You can purchase sailboat plans from hobby shops. These stores present a wide array of sailboat plans containing specifications and instructions on how to build the said project. Alternatively, if you have experience in sailboat construction, you can choose to create your own blueprint. You can create your very own style and determine the actual size of the boat.

Begin working on the hull of the sailboat. The hull is the body of the ship. Cut the plywood to the measurements indicated on your sailboat plan. Mark each part so that you will know where to place them during assembly. After cutting the pieces, you can start putting them together. Secure the parts together using epoxy. If you wish, you can use a set of small nails to make the structure sturdier.

Choose to give the hull a more finished look. Do this by applying a layer of fiberglass on the hull.
Start working on the deck. This is the surface at the top of the boat where people can stand on. The size of the deck depends on the boatï¿½s body. For your model sailboat, you can also use plywood in making the deck. After making the deck, attach it to the hull using small nails and epoxy glue.
Create the other important components of the sailboat. These include the sails and mast of the boat. The mast is the pole supporting the sails. You can purchase ready-made sails that you can cut to the appropriate size or make one out of your own materials. Attach the final parts to the structure and do the finishing touches to the sailboat.
