How to Build a Hydro Generator
Hydroelectricity generators, or hydro generators, are devices that can create electricity using energy from water. In certain countries, hydro generators are used to provide electricity to households, while some are used for industrial purposes.
Required Materials
- electrical generator/motor
- water wheel
- wire coils
- garden pipe
- light emitting diode (LED)
Steps to Build a Hydro Generator
- Planning – There are many books and publications discussing the concept of hydroelectricity and the design of generators using the said type of energy.
- Assembling the Hydro Generator – Connect the water wheel to the electrical generator. The design of the generator may vary so you need to determine the appropriate way to install the wheel to it. Then attach small magnets into the wire coils. Next, affix the magnets and the wire coils to the rotor of the electrical generator.
- Attaching the Garden Pipe to the Water Wheel – You can use a set of screws to secure one end of the pipe to the water wheels frame. Seal the wheels frame so that water from the pipe will not get into other parts of the water wheel.
- Testing the Hydro Generator – Find a source of water such as a river or a water spout. Feed water from the said source into the pipe. The pipe will then pass water to the wheel, which in turn will rotate due to the waters force. The rotation of the wheel would then cause the generator to produce an amount of electricity.
