How to Build a Fire Pit
A fire pit can make your cold nights warm and comfortable. You and your family can sit by the fire and relax. You can even toast a few marshmallows on it. The following paragraphs will provide information on how you can build a fire pit for your home.
Choosing the location for your fire pit is the first step. Select an area near your home that has no underground pipes, cables, or wires. The location must also be relatively far from trees, buildings, or any facility or structure that can catch fire. It is best to select a level area. But if you cannot find one, choose a spot having only a slight slope.
Required Materials
- Building sand
- Stackable paving stones
- Small aggregate gravel
- Stake
- Two-foot string
- Nails
- edger
- Rake
Drive the stake into the ground you have chosen. Tie the string to the stake and attach the nail 2 feet from the stake.
Draw a circle around the stake. You can use spray paint for this step. If you do not have spray paint, you can use flour.
Next, remove the layer of ground within the circle you have made. Dig to a depth of one foot. Ensure the sides are very straight. Dig another hole 6 inches square and 12 inches deep at the center of the hole.
Scrape out the pits bottom. Pour 4 inches of gravel. Fill the center of the hole with gravel. Add around 3 inches of sand on the gravel.
Place two rows of concrete pavers around the fire pit. Dry stack the concrete pavers. You are now ready to light the first fire in your pit. The pavers should be stacked on top of one another.
