How to Build a Deer Feeder

A deer feeder is a structure you can use to attract deer so you can watch them. You can also use a deer feeder to help you find deer for hunting. Below are the steps in building a deer feeder.

Required Materials

  • Wood
  • Wooden barrel
  • rope
  • Hammer
  • Nails
  • Sandpaper
  • Gloves
  • Saw
  • Drill
  • Peanut butter
  • Molasses

If you do not have a wooden barrel, you can construct one using several pieces of wood. Alternatively, you can use a wooden box.

Once you have completed the list of tools and materials, check the condition of the barrel. This is where you will place the deer feed. Make sure it does not have any chemical residue as this could be harmful to the deer. Also, check if the barrel has splinters. Remove them if you find any.

Next, drill a hole in the middle of the barrel or box. Insert a rope in the hole and tie a knot to secure the rope to the container. Then drill 1/8� to 3/16� holes at the bottom of the wooden barrel or box.

Making the feed is the next step. Mix peanut butter with molasses and. Place the mixture in the wooden container. The amount of the mixture you can make depends on the container�s size. Cover the container with its lid.

Using the rope, hang the deer feeder in an area where you normally find deer. It is a good idea to place the deer feeder under a tree in a sunny area. The mixture will fall through the holes to the ground. Deer will eventually find the feed and consume it.
