Instructions
- Choosing the Location – Build the closet against an existing wall in your room. Ideally, you should select one of the corners of the room.
- Finding the Closets Dimensions – Measure the floor and know how long and how far the closet will extend. Mark on the floor the dimensions of the closet.
- Working on the Walls – Cut a 2 x 4 board to the desired measurement. This part will determine the footage the closet would stick out from the wall. If the floor is concrete, use masonry bit to drill two holes on the floor through each end of the board. Use a standard bit if the floor is made of wood. Then use masonry screws to secure the board to the floor.
- Securing the Boards – Cut another 2 x 4 the same size as the previous board. Use deck screws to secure the board to the ceiling. Then cut a 2 x 4 board long enough to fit between the board on the floor and the one on the ceiling. Secure this third board to the wall with deck screws. Cut another board the same size as the third board. Screw the board to the other end. Repeat the said step until you have a box that is open in front.
- Adding Compartments – The design and number of compartments depend on your preference. Create more compartments if you have different types of clothing to keep in the closet.
- Installing the Doors Hinges and Knobs – Attach the hinges to the two sides of the structure. Cut two boards according to the measurement of the closet. You should have the top, middle and bottom hinges on your closet. Place the first door and screw the hinges to the door jamb. Work on the second door and make sure the two doors are evenly installed. Install the knobs on the doors.
- Adding the Finishing Touches – Place joint tape on the joints of the closet. Apply joint compound on the surface of the tape. Paint the closet if desired.
