How to Build a Circular Deck
Compared to rectangular and square decks, circular decks present a more unique look that will complement your property. In addition, a circular deck is perfect for you if you want to have a curved deck with a strong railing. Here are the steps in building a circular deck.
First, install the posts and beams for your deck. Using your tools, make the joists relatively longer than their intended length. Then attach the joists to the beam and the ledger. Attach the cross blocking in between the two outer joists.
Take a 1 x 4 brace and mark the spacing of your joist on it. Then take it across to the upper part of the joists. This will mark the area where you want the deck cover to begin. Measure the distance between each edge within the outer joists. Divide the measurement in half. You will need the said result in determining the radius of the decks circular curve.
Building the trammel is the next step. To do this, locate the center of the curve and fasten one end of a 1 x 2 to it. Use long nails to secure the said piece of wood.
Next, determine the level angles for cutting the joists. Use a protractor in this process. Place the squares which you will use to align the mark on the joists. Find the correct degree measurement. Do this by following the edge of the joist to the pivot point and marking this area.
Mark the cutting lines at the joists where the curve begins. This is found at the area where the curve touches the edge within the joists. Cut off the said parts of the joists.
