How To Become a Doctor
Many young people have a dream of being a doctor. As a parent when your child asks how to become a doctor, most people answer with a lot of school. But there is more to becoming a doctor than going to many years of school. A great way to start to become a doctor is by getting good grades from the start. Sure, the grades you get in grade school really won’t account for much. But the grades from middle school and high school will help you get into a good college.
College is where everything starts. By getting into a good college and choosing Pre-med as your major can help greatly. Grades now more than ever will determine if you can get into medical school. In order to get into medical school, you have to take a test called the MCAT test. It is like the SAT’s but the entire test is medical related questions, with great scores, you will have no problem getting into the medical school of your choice.
It is never too early to start looking into the medical school you want to go to. Don’t choose the first one you see, do some quality research and see which schools have the best programs. It is also never too early to start practicing for the MCAT test. You can buy a practice book in your local bookstore or you can find one online.
Try to apply as early as possible. There are thousands of college students applying for medical school everyday. You want to make sure that your application is seen early enough in time for admission. Once you are accepted you will only begin medical school but you will start a Residency Program and that can last from 3 to 7 years. This will depend on what type of doctor you want to be.
Keep an eye out, even in high school or scholarships and tuition programs. College is not cheap and neither is medical school. By keeping good grades you can almost guarantee your future as a doctor. Practice those MCAT tests and get tutoring if you need it. Becoming a doctor offers stiff competition so you have to be the best of the best.
Talk to your parents and let them know you are serious about becoming a doctor. They can be of a help to you. They can talk to guidance counselors and they can work on getting you information on student loans. It is never too early to plan for your career as a doctor.
