How to Aim a Slingshot

Slingshots remind most people of back in the bible days with David and Goliath. When the shot from a slingshot took down a giant. Slingshots exist today but they aren’t used to take down a giant. Slingshots are popular with teenagers and younger kids.

As a parent you have to responsible enough to show your child the proper way to use it. It can be a dangerous weapon if you are not careful. That is why it is imperative to show your kids how to use it. Slingshots can be fun but being protected and protecting others is just as important.

Never aim a slingshot at anyone. A cool game is to set up soda cans or soda bottles a few feet away and see if you could knock them down using pebbles or stones. A slingshot can basically shoot about 25 meters. After a good while your writs will start to hurt because you also have to hold the base of the slingshot while shooting.

To teach your child to aim a slingshot, there are some pointers they should know. The first tip to teach your child is to have is hold the slingshot at eye level. You want to look through the V top section of the slingshot when firing.

Then the arm you are pulling back on the slingshot should be as extended as much as the tension lets you. The rubber part of the slingshot is about 16 inches. You also want to be sure to keep your arm steady, if you are wobble or your hand is shaking it is going to effect the shot.

Now let go, maybe you have hit the target and maybe not. But practice makes perfect. You may not get it on the first 20 tries but you will get it. Make sure that you explain that safety is an important issue. Have them wear protective eye gear.

Make sure that no one is standing behind the target when you are shooting. Everyone should be standing behind the shooter. Never aim at animals or other people. It is very easy to break a window so never shoot or place your target near someone’s house. The woods are a good place or an open field or your backyard.
